BRIEF

This was an accordion booklet design, based around “Let America be America Again” by Langston Hughes. The poem focused on the silent majority that exists in America, and it was important that the booklet reflect these values. The inside of the spread is framed by shadowy figures, who are holding the “sky” above the city. The figures were based on the perspective of Egyptian hieroglyphics and the aesthetic of traditional African art. On the backside is the American flag, with an excerpt from the pledge of allegiance. The stripes of the flag are also formed from the text of the pledge of allegiance. All the type was set in Moret, which mimicked a traditional European serif, but with some irregularities that paired well with the African illustrations.
